HARETNA: COMMUNITY-DRIVEN URBAN RECOVERY OF NEIGHBORHOODS IN LEBANON

The HARETNA project aims to promote the economic recovery of the neighbourhoods of Greater Beirut, Tripoli and Sidon, and reduce gender inequalities through strengthened social cohesion, improved access to essential services, protection of rights, and improved livelihoods.

Thus, the project will improve the living conditions and the local development of three vulnerable urban neighbourhoods located in Greater Beirut, Tripoli and Sidon, selected for the great vulnerability of their inhabitants and the importance of the issues of coexistence between communities.

We expect to obtain three different results:

  • Improved living conditions of the vulnerable neighbourhood residents (Lebanese, refugee communities, especially Syrian) by strengthening their access to essential urban services and infrastructure inclusively.
  • Strengthened social cohesion among members of different communities by empowering households to claim their rights and access protection services (mainly for women and the most vulnerable people).
  • Improve socio-economic inclusion through support for job creation and income-generating activities.

The  project is developed by the “Norwegian Refugee Council” in partnership with COSV, the TEC – Tripoli Entrepreneurs Club and The Lebanese Women Democratic Gathering, and is funded by the French Development Agency and the Denmark’s development cooperation.
