Fairtrade Italy board of director has admitted COSV as an ordinary member, on December 2nd meeting. In the belief that interesting partnerships can arise for both organizations, COSV Executive Council had requested its membership, given also the new Italian and European regulations on international cooperation.
Fairtrade is a global organization that through its Certification Mark aims at ensuring better living conditions for producers in developing countries, imagining a world in which all producers can live and work in a safe and sustainable, realize their potential and decide their future. Fairtrade is a point of reference for sustainable development, with a scope and depth of action greater to any other program of ethical certification.
Fairtrade Italy is the consortium that since 1994 promotes FAIRTRADE Mark and the values of certificated fair trade in Italy. Members are non-governmental organizations, associations, cooperatives, associations and companies that support fair trade, international cooperation, social action, ethical finance, environment safeguard and consumer protection.
Fairtrade Standards are strict rules, established at international level, to which all the players in the sector (producers, traders, processors) must adhered to. Fairtrade International has so far established the Standards for about 300 raw materials in a process that involves first the producers, with models in continuous review and improvement.
COSV intervenes in countries where many of the raw materials certified by Fairtrade are produced. For this reason we believe that the synergies arising from joining Fairtrade can help our partners in several development projects to improve their production processes and introduce better quality products in the market.
