During 2012 and 2013, to encourage debate prior to the constitutional referendum of March 2013, the ACPDT (Africa Community Publishing and Development Trust) has produced and distributed awareness material to promote active citizenship and increase the knowledge on the provisions of the new constitution.
Two publications were then sent to print: “Our country, our home, A peoples guide to the new Constitution” – a document in the form of study guide; and “Our country, our home, a simplified summary of the People’s Constitution” – a pocket size book to understand the new constitution.
There has been a huge demand for the pocket book, both byycivil society organizations (10,000 copies requested), and by the police department, that requested 50,000 copies in English, 20,000 in Shona and 5000 in Ndebele. The first English release by ACPDT was exhausted due to the large demand and to meet the needs of the police a reprint was to be done, with appropriate acknowledge and attribution.
The Action Programme therefore supports the production, the public launch and the distribution of 50 000 copies of Constitution summary books to the Zimbabwe Republic Police. The ceremonies are scheduled in the cities of Harare, Bulawayo, Bindura and Mutoko.
