Conflicts and natural disasters contributed to almost 2 decades of chronic emergency in Somalia. This took a considerable toll on the education system, with only 30 percent of primary school-aged children in school.
The present project intends to ensure that out-of school children identified in the IDPs camps of Madag, Mabda, Maryama, Hersi Ruug and Kabka of Zona K, Mogadishu, are provided with protective learning spaces (with WASH facilities separated for girls/boys) that offer psychosocial interventions, life skills, health and hygiene, peace building activities, GBV, protection and learning and recreational opportunities.
Activities under the project will focus on: promotion of awareness raising campaigns advocating girls’ education; provision of safe learning spaces and gender sensitive education materials for 1010 out-of school girls and 1200 boys; incentives and training of education personnel (25 female, 25 male) on subject such as pedagogy and psycho-social care; school feeding for children involved in the learning spaces; free health screening to the pupils through the mobile clinics being run by COSV in the target camps.
